This sweet little bundle of fluff is 8-week old English Cocker Spaniel cross Bichon Frise is Rooney, who is being fostered in Cardiff, South Wales. Rooney has a double hernia – umbilical and groin – which will require surgery when he is around 6 months old – at the same time as he is neutered. The operation will be at our expense but he will need to be rehomed locally so as to be within travelling distance of our vets at Brackla or Llantrisant. Here is a puppy who just loves to be cuddled – he gives a little grunt of joy when you pick him up and he likes to snuggle into your neck. He stays close to your legs when you walk and wags his tail – just asking to be stroked. He is a lovable, cuddly little lad. He loves to play with his teddy and drags it into his bed.
Rooney is a typical playful puppy who adores company and cuddles. House training is a work in progress. Rooney is not fearful of any household noises and is sociable with both adults and children. As he is still very young he will nip during play, as can be expected with a young puppy – so any children will need to be old enough to understand this and know how to behave around dogs. Along with toilet training Rooney will need all his basic training – so his new family will need to be committed to this and have experience with puppies. He is not yet lead trained. Rooney is sociable with puppies and dogs but has not yet met any cats – however he is young enough to learn.
Rooney prefers to sit on someone’s lap whilst in the car – in which case he is perfectly happy. He’s not very keen on the crate in a car. He shows no inclination of jumping the garden fences – but as he is very little any small gaps in your garden will need to be plugged. He’s a puppy so he will chew! Rooney is really not keen on crates. At night he cried so his foster mum put her hand on him and stroked him – this helped and he fell asleep. He is too young to be left for any length of time so we are only considering applications where there will be someone home for the majority of the day.
Rooney is looking for a family who will give him lots of love, cuddles and time. He needs someone home for most of the day as he is so little – he cries when left. We would like him to have children to become his forever friends but they will need to be old enough to understand that puppies nip and are not toys. His new family will need to have experience of puppies and be prepared to take him to puppy training classes. Because of his ongoing health condition it is essential that he is rehomed locally so that he can have treatment with our vets and surgery for his condition when he is neutered at 6 months.
Rooney is up to date with his worming treatment, will shortly have his flea treatment, has started his vaccinations and is micro-chipped. It is a condition of adoption that he will be neutered when old enough and that he attends puppy training classes. Prospective adopters will be expected to travel to meet him in him foster home in Cardiff, South Wales.
If you are interested in adopting Rooney please read about our rehoming process and complete a Pre-Adoption form ( link here ) and one of our adoption coordinators will contact you for a chat.
